Apple Two-factor authentication is an additional layer of security to make your account more secure. With this option, other people can’t access your account even when they know your Apple password. To protect your Apple account by enabling 2FA now.

Steps to Turn on Apple Two-Factor Authentication

To use this feature, your mobile device must be on iOS 9 and later, and your Mac should be on OS X El Capitan or later. You can enable two-factor authentication only if you’ve enabled iCloud email.

On iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

  1. Open ‘Settings’ App and scroll down to ‘iCloud’ option.
  2. Click on your Apple ID. (It’s an email address on top)

  3. You may need to enter your password after selecting your ID.

  4. Select ‘Password & Security’.
  5. Tap on ‘Turn On Two-Factor Authentication’.

  6. Apple ID Security windows will pop up, Select ‘Continue’.

  7. Enter your phone number. You can select the text message or phone call option to receive the verification code Apple.
  8. Once verified, your device becomes a trusted device. In future, if you need to log in from another device, you get verification code in the trusted device.

On Mac with OS X El Capitan

  1. Open menu. (Apple logo)
  2. Go to ‘System Preference’ and then ‘iCloud’.
  3. It may ask you to sign in. And then select Account Details.
  4. Choose ‘Security’.
  5. Click ‘Set Up Two-Factor Authentication’.

How Does Apple Two-Factor Authentication Works?

When two-factor authentication is enabled, your account can only be signed in from known devices like your iPhone/iPad or Mac. If you want to log in from a new device, you have to enter additional six-digit code along with the password. You can get this verification code on your trusted device. For example, if you already have an iPhone and purchased a new iPad and tried to log in with your Apple ID, you need to enter an authentication code. The code will be automatically displayed on your iPhone. While signing in from the browser, you can select to trust the browser so that it won’t require authentication code in future.

If security is your concern, then you should enable Apple two-factor authentication. You might think this is an annoying step but don’t worry you’ve to enter in only once. You’ve to enter authentication code again only if you’ve signed out completely, formatted the device or when you have to change the password.

How Can I Receive Apple Two-Factor Authentication Code?

  • Trusted Device

    Any Apple device you’ve already logged in with two-factor authentication is a trusted device. But to enable two-factor authentication your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad should be on iOS 9 or newer. And for Mac, you’ve to be on OS X El Captain and later. You get authentication code on this trusted device in future.

  • Trusted Phone Numbers

    These are the numbers you’ve verified while enabling two-factor authentication. You can also verify your home’s phone or phone of your friend and family. Which you can use if you lost your device or can’t access it. You receive authentication code on these numbers. If you own a single Apple product only or don’t have any other trusted device nearby, then you can use trusted phone numbers.

How to Reset Apple ID Password?

Forgot Apple ID password? As there are many online accounts and you’ve to maintain separate passwords for all account, it’s probably you forgot password sometimes. If you use iPhone/iPad, then it’s not necessary to input regularly as once you enter a password, your device will remember it. If you are migrating to another iOS device you may not be able to sign in and sync your existing data to your new device if you don’t know your Apple ID password. You can quickly forget the password that you haven’t entered in a while.

So if you are having a problem while signing in with Apple ID on iPhone, iTunes, iCloud then you can reset Apple ID password easily. But you’ve to remember either recovery email or security questions that you’ve created while you sign up Apple ID earlier.

Steps to Reset Apple ID Password

  1. Visit the Apple Password Reset Page.
  2. Enter your Apple ID and click ‘Continue’.
  3. There are two options to reset, either it’s security question or Apple password. ‘I need to reset my password’ is pre-selected so just click ‘Continue’.
  4. You can reset Apple ID either using recovery email or by answering security question answer. Select which method you prefer to reset your account.
  5. If you select email, you’ll receive password reset email in your primary or rescue account. Open that email and click ‘Reset now’.
  6. Create a new password for your account and click ‘Reset Password’.

  7. If you select the security question as reset method, you need to provide the date of birth in the next step. Remember you’ve to enter a birth date in the given order (month/day/year).
  8. You’ve to answer two security questions correctly. Security answers are not case sensitive, so don’t worry about capitalization.
  9. You reach into ‘password create page’. Now you can make a new password for your Apple ID.

Didn’t Receive Apple Password Reset E-mail

Sometimes you don’t receive Apple ID password reset email. If you don’t find reset email in inbox then try following options:

  • Sometimes email goes into Junk/Spam folder so check those folders also. Alternatively, you can use the search option in your mail. Search ‘Apple’, and you’ll see all the emails from Apple.
  • Make sure you’re checking the right email address. You may be mistaken recovery email ID with another email ID.
  • Try resending the email again. Repeat the password reset process again.

After recovering Apple ID password, you need to sign in again on all the devices with the new password. You also need to update the new password in iTunes and iCloud.
